Blogging is catching up fast. Many people have left good paying jobs and have taken up blogging as as their full-time job. Earlier, only celebrities were known publicly and that too through media but now you can publicize yourself through blogging. • Visit blogger.com and sign-up for an account using a valid e-mail address (not necessarily gmail one)
• Select an available URL for blog, intuitive title, and a layout template.
• Your blog is ready for posting.

Now you need to do its make-up to making it more appealing and for promoting it for various reasons.

Following steps help you in doing make-up of your blog:

• Customizing Layout (Default Template): By default, the blog page shows blog title, owners profile, post area, post archive, and may be some other information. If you go to layout link of your blog then you will see current page-elements on your blog and a facility to add more page elements. There are many useful elements that can be inserted into your blog page. I found inserting HTML Code, Label, Link List page elements quite useful. HTML code allows you to place 3rd party HTML code/scripts like that of AdSense. Labels displaying and categorizing your posts based on tags associated with the post. Link list allows me to display links to my favourite sites. Once addition done, you can place these elements as you like. For example, putting Labels as right sidebar and Link List as left sidebar.
• Using Free Templates: Once you start exploring blogosphere, you will find that your blog is not as aesthetic as somebody else. Basically, they are using a different template. If you wish to make your blog more appealing look-wise then there are ways to fulfill you wish. Just Google ‘free blogger templates’ and you will shown websites offering these templates. Visit any of these sites and download template (usually a text, xml, or html file) that suits your taste. Using this template is quite easy. You can either upload template to your blog or you can select Revert to Classic Template and copy-paste the template code in Edit HTML tab of Templates link. Save the code and view your blog with altogether different layout. You can play with many templates until you are satisfied or tired.
• Developing Your Own Template: While copy-pasting the template code in above step, you may have noticed that template is nothing but some HTML and CSS code and intervened tags enclosed in $ and starting with Blog word like $BlogURL$. We are now coming on to the point. To develop your own template, all you need is some knowledge of HTML, CSS and information about blogging tags. Going through a downloaded template code can help you in familiarizing with these requirements and starts developing your own template. ‘Blogging Tags’ are quite few and information can be downloaded from Internet. To make the development faster, you can even use web authoring tools like Dreamweaver.
• Promoting Your Blog: If you don’t promote your blog then there is no use of creating and customizing it. Following ways can be used to promote your blog:
  • You might have come across the phrase ‘Content, is really the king’. This is 100% true. Although you can post anything on your blog, it is advisable to make different blogs for different topics like one for technical postings, one for posting about health tips, and so on. Post about topics that readers are really looking for and not the ones you know all about and are present elsewhere in better way.
  • Be consistent in your posting frequency – be it daily, weekly, or monthly but stick to it. This will ensure re-visits by readers who like your blogs.
  • Under the Settings link on your blog dashboard, you may find a feature to allow feeds. You must allow feeds to which your readers can subscribe so that they know when you have updated your blog. I am using Feedburner which not only provides feed for subscription by others but also provide statistics about its readership and helps in monetize using AdSense. Feedburner provides you small scripts for each of these which you need to insert into your blog template.
  • But how people will know about your blog. One way is to popularize it by telling, e-mailing, and putting words about in online communities. However, like if we have search engines for websites, there are specialized search engines for blogs as well. One such search engine is Technorati . Again you need to open up an account with Technorati and claim your blogs there. You may need to do certain settings as well like automatic or manual ping to let technorati know about your blog updates. Now, you blog will appear in search results and will come to top blogs category or to homepage of Technorati if it has achieved sufficient authority.
  • Posting comments on other’s blog posts and leaving link to your blog does not work technically now as your links in comments as marked as no follow tags.

• Maximizing from Your Blog Promotion: You have publicized yourself enough, now, is the time to make some money out of it. Just sign-up with Google AdSense and put the scripts provided into your blog template. These scripts will show advertisements on your blog pages based on your blog content and you will get paid for impressions as well as for count-per-click.

I think the theory and tips are enough. You must now start blogging. Keep a notepad handy to jot down login and other information about your accounts that you are going to create on various sites. And also keep a tab on time your are spending in blogging.

When you consider the relationship a life science company shares with the FDA it’s easy to visualize the love/hate kinship of a parent and child. It’s also simple to deduce who the parent might be. Accounting is defined as “the art of recording, classifying and summarizing in terms of money transactions and events of financial character and interpreting the results thereof.” In simplest words, we can say:

(1) Accounting is an art

(2) of recording classifying and summarizing

(3) in terms of money

(5) interpreting the results thereof

Accounting is an art of correctly recording the day to day business transactions: It is a science of keeping the business records in a regular and most systematic manner so as to know the business results with minimum trouble. Therefore, it is said to be a statistical procedure for the collection, classification and summarization of financial information.

Objectives of Accounting

The objectives of accounting are two-fold:

(1) To record permanently, all business transactions, and

(2) To show the effect of each transaction and also the combined effect of all such transactions for a given period so as to find out the profit the business has earned or loss incurred, and also to know the correct financial position on a particular date.

The necessity and importance of accounting can be understood by answering the following questions:

Accounting Systems

There are various systems of accounting for maintaining business records:

Cash system of accounting

This system records only cash receipts and payments on the assumption that there are no credit transactions. If at all there are any credit transactions, they are not at all recorded until the cash is actually paid or received. Receipts and payments account in case of clubs, societies, hospital, educational institutes, lawyers etc. is the best example of cash system.

Single Entry System

This system ignores the two fold aspect of each transaction as considered in double entry system. Under single entry system, merely personal aspects of transaction i.e. personal accounts are recorded. This method takes no note of the impersonal aspects of the transactions other than cash. It offers no check on the accuracy of the posting and no safeguard against fraud because it does not provide any check over the recording of cash transactions. Therefore, it is called as “imperfect accounting.”

Double Entry System

The double entry system was first evolved by Luca Pacioliin, who was a Franciscan Monk of Italy. With the passage of time, the system has gone through lot of developmental stages. It is the only method fulfilling all the objectives of systematic accounting. It recognizes the two fold aspect of every business transaction.

These questions are of decisive importance for a trader and the answers can only be derived from up to-date financial records. Only the system of keeping the perfect records of all business transactions will help the proprietor to know the amount he has gained or lost.

The main objective of any business is to earn maximum possible profits with minimum expense. In view of this, a commercial organization always tries to expand its business, increase its sales and reduce operating expenses. The progress made in this regard, is always indicated only by the properly maintained financial records.

Meaning of Accounting

In the beginning, the main objective of accounting was to ascertain the result of the business activities (whether profit has been earned or loss has been suffered) during a year and to show the financial position of the business as on a particular date. Accounting has to meet the requirements of taxation authorities; investors, government regulations; management and owners. This has resulted in widening the scope of accounting and may be defined as follows:

“Accounting is the art of recording, classifying and summarizing, in a significant manner and in terms of money transactions and events which are in part at least, of a financial character and interpreting the result thereof.”

Is Accounting a Science or an Art?

In simple words, science establishes relationship of cause and effect whereas the art is the application of knowledge comprising of some accepted theories, principles and rules. Since accounting docs not establish cause and effect relationship it only provides us with the procedure by which objectives of accounting can be achieved, therefore accounting is an art and not a science. Accounting is an art of recording financial transactions in a set of books; classifying in desired categories and summarizing the information for presentation in a suitable manner to the concerned persons for their benefit.

Scope of Accounting

The need of a system of accounting was felt by man early in the history of trade and commerce. The art of book-keeping is as old as the art of trading itself. This art of keeping records passed through many phases since its inception. With the development of commerce, it has attained a position of great importance. Indeed, it can be truly said that accounting has become the foundation on which the whole fabric of modem commerce rests.

Though there is no legal obligation on an ordinary trader to keep the records, every business house finds it essential and convenient to keep the systematic records so as to know where exactly it stands. Moreover, it is legally binding on some forms of business, such as joint stock companies, to prepare periodically, statements in proper forms showing the position of the business. A proper and satisfactory method of accounting is an essential part of any business house for the following reasons :

(1) If no records are kept, it will be difficult to find out accurate net profit. Under such circumstances, tax authorities may overestimate the profits and thus a trader will suffer for not having kept the business records.

(2) In absence of proper business records, the trader will find it difficult to submit the true position to the court in case he becomes insolvent.

(3) Keeping of proper records helps the trader in framing future business plans & policies.

(4) It will be difficult to ascertain and fix the price of business to be sold or disposed off, if no records are kept.

(5) Finally, in spite of the best memory it is beyond the capacity of a trader to remember all the business dealings with back references.

And now I read that IBM (who now owns Black Ice) is ending support and updates to Black Ice in Sept 2008. You’ve been warned! Get another firewall!
I’ve been using different versions of BlackIce for about 3 years now, and I’m thoroughly satisfied with it, albeit with a couple of mitigatable concerns.

The first concern is the system’s defaulted application protection. This should be turned off at all times, as the program will continually spam you with requests to block applications, which include such basic system processes as explorer.exe, rundll.dll, and Windows Media Player. The memory function, which is supposed to help the program learn which programs to block and which to allow, does not work, and never has. Turning this feature off is an absolute must. The other annoying feature, is the yearly subscription this thing requires for its license. I bought the **** thing, let me use it. Fortunately, this is an easy fix.

Black Ice does require a good bit of setup, as you’ll have to spend time blocking off ports commonly targetted by hackers, as well as blocking ports and addresses as they are scanned or scan your computer, this does take some time, and I recommend having a second firewall setup while you ‘teach’ Black Ice.

Without application protection, however, the program runs quickly and smoothly in the task tray, giving you messages on the tray icon for different levels of attack activity. You can also set Black Ice to play a .wav file to alert you. It detects many different types of attacks, such as Subseven port probes, PC Anywhere port probes, syn-ack shenanigans and others, even giving you a rundown of what each attack involves via the web.

All in all, I recommend this program, but only for the computer user who is serious about taking the time to protect their data. This program is not for the faint of heart.
